Waiata Anthems Album Cover - Commissioned by Universal Music NZ
2019
Examples of Concept Development for Waiata/Anthems Album cover
In 2019, I was approached to create an album cover for Waiata/Anthems. This compilation album featured New Zealand artists covering their hits in Te Reo Maori. Notable features include Six60, Stan Walker, Bic Runga and Tiki Taane.
“the original album artwork by rising artist Kauri Hawkins reinforces the message of empowering New Zealanders to learn and speak Te Reo Māori. The design represents the ‘manu’ or songbird and how we can use music to tell our stories and to share Te Reo Māori. The manu figure can also be seen as a face and its reference to our ‘native tongue’.”

Current set-design for MARAE. Host Miriama Kamo sitting with Matai Smith
Beginning in 2021, MARAE had undergone changes to the staff producing the show and needed a new vision for the show. Working with Pango Productions as a Production Assistant, I was tasked with designing a new brand for MARAE and input into the visuals for the show.

In 2021, I produced and edited a mini-series of original content for Piri’s Tiki Tour for use on the Youtube and Facebook channels. During a period of inactivity between seasons, we created some original content based on tips and tricks for the outdoors with a focus on kaimoana (seafood).

Bro-casted brand design
2018
Development of brand design - Bro-casted
I created my own brand as an artist. The design is based on a universal power button, the combination of 0 + 1, on and off. I developed this logo into an online symbol that represents myself and my work under bro-casted.
Along with this brand comes the website you are now visiting, for the last 8 years I have developed this site as a place to catalogue my artwork. It also is the perfect answer to the question “So what do you make if you’re an artist?“
Feel free to look at my artist portfolio to gain a deeper understanding of my practice.
